Traveling to Cuba during Holy Week is a great idea. The island lives this magical holiday with great enthusiasm. The vast majority of Cubans are Catholics, so Holy Week on this island is very important, and every year it becomes more and more important. During this holiday, Cubans, whether practicing or not, go to churches all over the country to celebrate this traditional date.

One of the main traditions during Holy Week are the processions, especially in Camagüey and Trinidad. In Camagüey, the entire historic center of the city is visited along with the entire Christian community that gathers for the Procession of the Holy Sepulcher. This procession goes from the Plaza de la Merced, right in front of the Iglesia de la Merced, to the Iglesia de la Soledad. Thousands of people make this route, accompanied by silver confectioned relics dating from the second half of the 18th century, marching bands, and procession parades. In Trinidad the processions depart from the upper part of the city at the Iglesia Parroquial de la Santísima Trinidad. This procession is celebrated on Good Friday and is more solemn than the one in Camagüey. But 2 days later, on Easter Sunday, it is a day full of joy and drumming in this World Heritage City.

It is also common to visit religious temples such as churches, parishes, cathedrals and basilicas. During this time they are especially beautiful. They are generally located in the historical center of the cities, in the central squares and in some provinces there are even some ruins or remodeling of churches from the XVI century. The most outstanding of the island are the Basílica Nuestra Señora del Cobre in Santiago de Cuba and the Catedral de la Virgen María de la Concepción Inmaculada, the Convento de San Francisco de Asís, and Nuestra Señora de la Merced in Old Havana.

These exciting traditions are a great moment for religious and non-religious alike to experience the Cuban people and their centuries of traditions.

Or the beaches of Cayo Guillermo, with its impressive seabed and  its amazing coral reefs that are among the largest in the world full of starfish, turtles, and thousands of colorful fish. Scuba diving and snorkeling are highly recommended. The crystalline waters of Cayo Coco and the paradisiacal beaches of Cayo Santa Maria where you can fly over the waves, thanks to its warm waters and constant winds. It is considered one of the best places on the island for kitesurfing and surfing.

This ideal climate will allow you to explore its historic cities, such as the emblematic city of Havana, the historic city of Holguin or the exciting city of Ciego de Avila. In Havana you will be able to walk through the historic streets of its well-known historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Old Havana, with its exceptional architecture. The Boardwalk, the neighborhoods of Vedado and Havana Center, the National Capital of Cuba in downtown Havana, and its wide cultural opportunities make Havana one of the best destinations to visit in the Americas.

The impressive city of Holguin is also a very good option to travel to Cuba for Easter Week. It is also known as the City of Parks, since its center is made up of five parks. It is the gateway to the tourist destinations of the northern coast, in addition to hosting rich natural areas such as the Parque Natural Cristóbal Colón. Another very good option is to visit Santiago de Cuba, Cuba's second most important city, with a great colonial history and the cradle of many Cuban musical genres, such as son and bolero. It was founded in 1515 and many places from this era still stand as a reminder of this historic moment that changed the history of the island forever. Its architecture, art and traditions will take you back half a century. Visiting the Museo de Ambiente Histórico Cubano, catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, or the Balcón de Velazquez, is a very good option to get to know this historic colonial city.

But Cuba is not only made up of historical cities and tropical beaches, Cuba is also green. The island has numerous natural parks where you can appreciate the spectacular Cuban flora and fauna. You can take excursions to the Parque Natural Topes de Collantes, where you can explore its numerous trails and its green mountains, rivers, valleys and caves. The Parque Nacional Desembarco del Granma, with its impressive views from its terraces up to 360 meters high that give way to mangroves and coasts with coral reefs. Parque Nacional Alejandro de Humboldt, is the largest and most important biosphere reserve on the island, containing 2% of all the species of flora on the planet. Or Sierra Maestra, is the most important mountain massif in Cuba with the pico Turquino, the highest in all of Cuba. Also well known for its historical importance, closely linked to revolutionaries, such as Fidel Castro, Ernesto "Che" Guevara, and other revolutionary figures. These places are spectacular if what you are looking for is the fauna and flora or to see the best landscapes of the island. Its trails will allow you the possibility of exploring these parks from the inside.

The mountain routes with forests of pine, bamboo, and eucalyptus in the Parque Natural Topes de Collantes, will leave you amazed. The Sendero Vegas Grandes is the most popular trail among visitors to the area, it runs through the coffee plantations, passing by traditional houses tradicionales, cliffs, and finishing at the Salto del Caburní, a spectacular waterfall where you can refresh yourself at the end of the hike. Another one of its attractions is its natural spa, one of the best tourist centers for rest and health in all of Cuba. Also, the Parque Nacional de Viñales stands out, one of the most spectacular landscapes in all of Cuba. Here you will be able to see the mogotes, small mountain escarpments of limestone with rounded tops, a perfect place if you are a lover of mountain climbing or if you want to contemplate the emblematic Cuban tobacco plantations

We have a lot of experience in trips to Cuba, we can help you plan the ideal itinerary so that you visit Cuba and you enjoy one of the special dates such as Holy Week ina very special and unique way.

How is the weather during Holy Week in Cuba?

The weather during these dates is very good. Holy Week happens just between the months of March and April that is the precise moment of transition between the two Cuban seasons. April marks the beginning of the rainy season, but no need to worry, since the vast majority of the island enjoys an agreeable climate which is a little more brisk, ideal for the beach and for tourism in the city. The temperatures bounce between 24 and 31°C.

The mornings and nights are a little more chilly than during the day, which is ideal to explore the city and the nature. Noontime is the warmest time, and because of that, it is a good moment to jump into the water in one of the paradisiacal beaches or rivers.
