The most frequented areas are Las Salinas de la Ciénaga de Zapata, Cayo Largo del Sur and some parts of the beautiful Isla de la Juventud, especially from February to June, the best times for this fishing. Try to get the famous grand slam, which consists of catching a tarpon, a bonefish and a popcorn on the same day.
Another great entertainment is the famous freshwater fishing, for which many Americans visit the country frequently. The fantastic freshwater fishing is practiced especially in the Ciénaga de Zapata and in the Laguna del Tesoro and the Laguna de la Leche, where you can get magnificent specimens of trout, one of the largest in the world.
Fishing lovers will not be able to miss the famous Hemingway International Marlin Fishing Tournament, an annual marlin fishing contest created by the famous Hemingway and won by Fidel Castro himself in 1980. It takes place in Havana, in the month of April.
