Habana Centro Neighborhood is one of the four most visited and popular districts in Havana. It's located in the north and central zone of the city, between the neighbourhoods of Vedado and La Habana Vieja (Old Havana).
This is a popular area that has some of the most important and well-known buildings and architectural works in the area that reflect Cuba's golden years. Despite not having received the same care as La Habana Vieja in terms of restoration of its surroundings, getting lost in its streets will provide you with street scenes that are truly like postcards of the country. Moreover, Centro Habana boasts some of the most iconic places in the whole city such as the Capitolio Nacional de Cuba (Capitol Building), the Museo de la Revolución, the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, the factory of the famous tobacco brand Partagás, the Paseo Martí (promenade)or the Gran Teatro de La Habana Alicia Alonso (Theater), just to name a few.
One of the main centres of the city is also in this district: Parque Central, which in spite of being in the middle of the city is a perfect corner to relax and to move away from the stressful chaos of the city since it is protected from the traffic. It has the famous Esquina Caliente, a corner in the southern part of the park where fans of Cuba's national sport, baseball, usually gather to discuss the games. This park is one of the most beautiful zones of the city as it is surrounded by trees. Cubans use this park as a meeting point, making the atmosphere here unique. In the centre of the park, you will see the first statue of Jose Martí that was built in Cuba.
Another park of great importance in the city is the Parque de la Fraternidad, where several busts of American leaders like Abraham Lincoln are on display.
Nearby this park you can find several interesting places and historical monuments such as the stately Capitolio Nacional de Cuba, the Real Fábrica de Tabacos Partagás (Tobacco Factory) and the Gran Teatro de La Habana Alicia Alonso. Besides these popular spots, there are other slightly less known places, but that are worth visiting such as the Fuente de la India (Water fountain).
This district is considered to be one of the most beautiful zones in the city, and despite not being as well preserved as other parts of Havana, it is essential to visit this popular neighbourhood on your way through the city.
