The Orchid Garden of Soroa is a beautiful botanical garden located within the natural park of Soroa, in the province of Artemisa, Cuba. This magnificent garden of 35,000 square meters is dedicated to the preservation of nature and the environment, as well as to the conservation of orchids from all over the world, including unique and protected species. Currently it is also used for research, being a scientific center directed by Lázaro Bocourt Vigil.
The history of the Orchid Garden dates back to the late 19th century and its creation is due to Tomás Felipe Camacho, a Spanish lawyer who wanted to honor the memory of his recently deceased wife by dedicating to her this garden filled with her favorite flowers, orchids. Camacho selected and cultivated an immense collection of 18,000 orchid specimens gathered from all over the world, considered the largest in Cuba.
In addition to contemplating the fragile orchids in bloom and their delicate aroma, you will be amazed by the beauty of nature in the Biosphere Reserve: Sierra del Rosario, where there is the greatest scenic and biological richness of the region.
