The lovely village of Jaruco is located between the cities of Havana and Matanzas in Cuba in the province of Mayabeque. Crossed by the peaceful San Juan de Jaruco River, this homely village is a very particular destination for visitors where the rural and the nature stand out, especially at Escaleras Park, which is a protected natural area.
The history of Jaruco dates back to primitive times: it is known that it was in this area where the first indigenous aboriginal settlements were, which were established near the mighty river. Their culture is still influential today, and, actually, the name for the Jaruco village comes from the indigenous works axaruco.
The most interesting place to visit is the Parque Escaleras de Jaruco (Escaleras de Jaruco Park), a splendid protected natural area where you can have pleasant walks and enjoy the peacefulness of nature. There you will find particular native species, such as the beautiful flower called white butterfly (the National Flower of Cuba) and the colourful woodpeckers.
