The coat of arms of Cuba, also known as the Escudo de La Palma Real, was created in 1849 by Miguel Teurbe Tolón. Today's version of the Cuban shield differs from the old one, since in the old version you could find some symbols that do not represent the ideas that they really want to convey.
Tomás Estrada Palma, who was the first president of Cuba, established the design specifications through a decree on April 21, 1906, and since then they have remained unchanged.
Currently, specified by law it is a symbol of the nation, in the upper part of the shield you can see a sea, and at the ends of the sea you can see Florida in one part, and in the other Yucatan and in the center is a solid stem wrench, which represents Cuba, implying its political and geographical importance.
In the background is a red rising sun with yellow rays, representing the tropical climate.
In the lower left there are five vertical stripes of blue and white, which represent the different Departments into which the island was divided. In the lower right part there is a royal palm tree, with its palm at the top, which represents the fertility of the land, and it is the palm tree because it has been the most important tree throughout the history of the country, and the background shows a landscape with two mountains.
As a support for the shield there is a bundle of rods, joined together by a red ribbon, which represents the union of the Cuban people.
On both sides of the shield you will find a laurel branch, and another oak branch, which symbolize peace and victory.
