Puerto Padre (Father Port) is a maritime town located in the north of the eastern part of the island of Cuba, in the province of Las Tunas. It is known by the nickname "La Villa Azul de los Molinos" (The Blue Village of Mills) because of the large number of mills and the vivid blue tones that the sky and the sea give it.

Puerto Padre has great historical importance since it was here where in 1492 Christopher Columbus first disembarked, who, on the voyage that would lead him to discover the New World, ended up spending his first night in America between the beaches of Punta Tomate and La Herradura.

In this town, you will find most of the beaches of Las Tunas, with some of the most beautiful in the province such as La LlanitaPlaya la Herradura, Playa La Boca and Punta de Tomate, four almost unexplored paradises that you should not miss the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing dip and perform exciting water activities.

Come to Puerto Padre and discover the tranquillity of eastern Cuba by strolling through its historic streets, admiring the sea from its boardwalk or relaxing on its pristine beaches

A tour of Puerto Padre should begin with a leisurely stroll through the streets of its perfectly preserved historic centre. Begin your visit to the city by following the path of Avenida Libertad (Liberty Avenue), a palm-lined avenue that crosses the entire urban centre and ends at the boardwalk. On this avenue, you can also see several sculptures, such as one dedicated to Don Quixote

To delve into the history of the town, go to the Fuerte de La Loma (Fort of La Loma), an admirable fortress built by the Spaniards during the 19th century to defend the city. This castle today houses an interesting museum of weapons and documents of the time, and also offers spectacular views of the ocean and the historic centre that you can see from the top.

Nor should you miss the Museo Municipal Fernando García Grave de Peralta (Municipal Museum), located in a beautiful eclectic style building. This museum is worth a visit, not only for its beautiful setting but also for its interesting rooms of archaeology, history, natural sciences, decorative arts and its temporary exhibition hall.
