This former Cementerio de Columbia or American Protestant Cemetery on the Isla de la Juventud, Cuba, was founded by the Americans who inhabited the town of Columbia during their occupation on the island. The cemetery has recently been declared a National Monument by the Caribbean authorities and its landscaping makes it the only one of its kind in the country.
The Cementerio de Columbia contains the graves of U.S. citizens, as well as other foreign settlers who worked on the island and died there during the first decades of the 20th century. It nowadays houses the remains of more than 300 individuals from all walks of life.
