The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores (Church of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores) is situated in the northwest part of Nueva Gerona, capital of the Isla de la Juventud. It's an accurate construction of the colonial Mexican style, it was re-built in 1926, after the original was destroyed by a hurricane.
It is known for being a symbol of the Cuban Revolution, since its former parish priest, Guillermo Sardiñas, was the only Cuban priest to join Fidel Castro's rebellion in the Sierra Maestra in 1957.
