The Central Patria o Muerte is a remarkable sugar center near Morón, in the province of Ciego de Ávila, Cuba. You can find this old refinery located in the town of Patria, only 3 km away from the city.
Although this small refinery was founded in 1914, its property and more than two hundred workers were transferred to American hands in 1919. It was operating in possession of foreign capital until its nationalization in 1960, with the arrival of the Revolution. Today, this factory is one of the main engines of Morón's economy.
You will be able to visit this sugar production site by means of a 1920 Baldwin steam train manufactured in Philadelphia. During this pleasant walk, which you must book in advance, you will go through 5 km of plantations until you reach Rancho Palma, a picturesque farm with a restaurant that offers typical Cuban ranchón food.
