The Laguna de la Leche expands over a space of 66 km in the area around Morón, Ciego de Ávila, being the largest natural lake in Cuba. It is a peaceful natural environment, which receives its name from the limestone sediments deposited at its bottom and reflected in the water. In addition, the mixture of fresh and saltwater that it shelters increases the uniqueness of the place.
To reach this area you must access from the south on the road to Morón. The site is frequented by a large number of fishermen who come to this place attracted by the diversity of the fauna and where they find numerous schools of fish such as carp or perch. If one of your hobbies is fishing, this is the ideal place to come with your fishing rod, or simply to admire its beautiful and diverse fauna and flora.
In the Laguna de la Leche you will also have the opportunity to go on guided fishing trips. This kind of activity can be booked at the Flora y Fauna Office. Each visit lasts four hours and, as the group size increases, the prices will be reduced. If you decide to pay an extra charge, you can keep your catch and cook it on a portable barbecue on board the boat.
You can also take a tour of the lake by boat just to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. This is merely an informative visit and lasts 45 minutes.
Nowadays the site hosts the celebration of festivals such as the Carnaval Acuático of Morón or the Jardines del Rey F1 motorboat competition, two events worth seeing.
