In the city of Ciego de Ávila all the roads you travel will probably end up in Parque Martí, built in the centre of the town, it pays tribute to one of the most emblematic symbols of Cuba. This park was originally designed in 1877 in honor of the Spanish King Alfonso XII.
The location, full of trees and green areas, can be considered as the heart of the city. It is an ideal place to relax and take a break after a long walk through its streets or to take shelter from the stifling heat under one of the shades provided by its large palm trees.
Opposite this green area, you will find the ayuntamiento (town hall) from 1911 or the Catholic church founded in 1947, which houses the statue of San Eugenio de la Palma, the local patron saint, in a building of great architectural beauty.
Finally, the Teatro Principal, which was built in 1927, is a prime example of the eclectic architecture of the province. If you are a performing arts enthusiast, do not hesitate to pay a visit to Joaquín Agüero Street, on the corner of Honorato del Castillo.
