The Museo Provincial Simón Reyes (Provincial Museum) is one of the most important municipal institutions in Cuba. It is essential to visit it during your visit to Ciego de Ávila. The enclosure consists of a typical avileño porch, in which you will be able to enjoy the cosy local atmosphere. The inhabitants of the area usually come here to spend hours chatting about everyday life. The mustard yellow paint that decorates the walls will draw your attention.
At the entrance, you will see two life-size military figures, an ideal place to take a fun photo. Inside the museum, you will find a wide range of information about Afro-Cuban culture and religion. There are also several collections of objects from the colonial era, as well as collections about the struggles for independence the country has maintained throughout its history.
During your visit to this interesting place, you will be able to see an area dedicated exclusively to the contributions of African culture to the community. There will also be extensive information about the most traditional festivals in the province related to its culture.
After leaving the museum, you can take a walk to the nearby Plano Mural Ciego de Ávila (Mural Map), a bronze map of the town dating back to the 19th century which shows the exact location where the town was founded in 1840.
