The Museo Nacional de la Lucha Contra Bandidos (Escambray rebellion National Museum) was opened in the Sancti Spíritus municipality of Cuba in 1984. This spectacular museum located in Trinidad specializes in history, weapons and various historical documents. It is located in a former 18th-century convent, the Convento de San Francisco de Asís. In the 19th century, the Spaniards took this building and installed the Spanish Army Headquarters there until the end of the century.
Nowadays it houses all the historical relics left after the war called "Lucha contra Bandidos" or the “Escambray Rebellion” fought between 1959 and 1965. All of the relics are spread out in 5 rooms: 4 permanent and 1 temporary one in which the last phase of Cuba's independence and the Escambray Rebellion are combined. In the different rooms you can see uniforms, documents, plans, weapons and personal belongings of the participants of these wars, among others.
In addition, you will also be able to enjoy the privilege of seeing an authentic boat used by the CIA and anti-revolutionary groups, as well as a Soviet truck used by the revolutionary side. But, more surprisingly, you'll get to see a piece of one of the planes used in the Guerra de los Misiles (Missile War). Lastly, you cannot leave without attending the activities organized by the museum: talks, workshops, guided tours, conferences and many more.
