The amazing Catedral de Cienfuegos, also known as Catedral de la Purísima Concepción, is an incredible neo-classical architectural work in the French and colonial style. It is located in the heart of the city Cienfuegos, opposite to the emblematic Parque José Martí, in Cuba.
Built in 1869, the Catedral de la Purísima Concepción has a beautiful neoclassical façade, beautiful French style windows, walls of lime and red tiles, a sample of the colonial architecture from the previous era. In addition to its two high bell towers, the most outstanding features of the cathedral are its colorful and striking stained-glass windows, considered the most artistic in the country.
Contemplate the true Cienfuegos's spirit inside the Catedral de la Purísima Concepción. It is decorated with beautiful oil paintings by local artists and the woodwork, the marble floor and the simplicity of its decorative elements stand out, a sample of the good taste of the ancient tradition.
During its construction, it also received various donations, including from the famous Tomás Terry, who donated the spectacular organ inside. It also has elements from abroad, such as its precious jewels sent from Barcelona.
Many important city events take place in the Catedral de la Purísima Concepción, such as the Procession of the Purísima, which is attended by prominent figures such as the Archbishop of Santiago de Cuba and the Bishop of Pinar del Río.
