The spectacular Parque José Martí is one of the most beautiful parks of the whole island of Cuba. Declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2005, it is an important symbol of the culture and identity of Cienfuegos.
From the 19th century, the Parque José Martí has been considered the most important and central point of Cienfuegos. In fact, when the city was created, it was the starting point from which the other streets emerged.
The park has had different names since its creation, such as Plaza Real de San Fernando or Plaza de Recreo, but it was finally given this name in honor of José Martí, the apostle of Cuban Independence. It was declared a National Monument in 1978.
Walking around the beautiful promenades of Parque José Martí you will find the most representative and beautiful institutions of the city of Cienfuegos, such as the Palacio de Gobierno, the elegant Teatro Tomás Terry, the fascinating Museo Provincial and the Casa de Cultura de Benjamín Duarte, from where you will have a spectacular view of the whole city. In addition, the iconic Arco de Triunfo is also located there.
