Within the paradisiacal places of Cuba is El Nicho, a beautiful natural place that is part of the Parque Natural Topes de Collantes in the Sierra de Escambray. It's formed by numerous waterfalls of crystalline water and beautiful natural swimming pools where you can bathe. It has become the ecological symbol of Cienfuegos, in Cuba.

To reach the main waterfall from which this natural park, you will have to walk along a path called the Reino de las Aguas where the exuberant native fauna and flora will flood your senses. Before reaching the main waterfall you can cool down and relax in some of the natural pools along the way, such as the Poceta de los Enamorados . In addition, you will find numerous caves waiting to be explored, such as the Cueva Martín Infierno, where the largest stalagmite in all of Latin America is found.

Once you reach the El Nicho waterfall, you can continue climbing a little further until you reach the viewpoint, from where you can admire the magnificence of nature at the Salto de la Hanabanilla in the background.
To regain strength after an intense day of hiking and bathing in the middle of nature, at the entrance to El Nicho you will find a ranch style restaurant, where you can taste succulent local specialties.
How to get to El Nicho?

Truthfully El Nicho can be reached from both Trinidad and Cienfuegos. However, from the former the road is very narrow and in bad condition, as it crosses through mountain roads. It is not recommended to drive at night as you may not be able to see the road properly.
The best option is to travel from Cienfuegos, about 50 km away. If you go by private car you can leave it at the entrance, where there is a parking area. Although you can also travel by taxi or car pool.
And after spending the day in El Nicho from Cienfuegos you can continue your journey to Trinidad.
