The amazing Palacio de Valle is an old mansion in which different Hispanic styles come together: Baroque, Neoclassical, Moorish and Romanesque, in Cienfuegos, Cuba. This fascinating architectural work was declared a National Monument of Cienfuegos' Cultural Heritage.
Built between 1913 and 1917, the Palacio de Valle is a 20th century architectural jewel. With cornices that decorate the entrances of the different rooms, fine paintings and colorful mosaics. The principal impression is similar to a beautiful Moroccan kasbah, the walled castle where the sultan used to settle, although it is much more showy due to its numerous decorations in different styles. Its Mudejar style is the one that dominated the 12th and 13th centuries in Spain, although there are also Baroque, Italianizing and Romanesque influences.
Specialists from different nationalities took part in its design and construction and contributed with their special characteristics. For example, Antonio Bárcenas, who built the beautiful garden door, and the Cienfuegos-born Frank Palacios, who cast the house's ornaments and coats of arms in bronze.
At present, the Palacio de Valle works as a recreational-cultural center where various events are held to bring you closer to the Cienfuegos's culture. You can also taste the delicious Cuban food in its own restaurant, a quality restaurant specialized in seafood.
