The Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción (Nuestra Señora de la Asunción Cathedral) is a centric building dated back to 1833 and located in the city of Baracoa, Cuba, where the first church previously was.
It is important to highlight the Cruz de Parra (Parra Cross), which is a perfect symbol bearing a legend telling us that the cross was delivered by Christopher Columbus during one of his trips. That is obviously not true, as the material used comes from Cuba, but it was made during the times of Christopher Columbus. Afterwards it was recognized as Monumento Nacional (National Monument). More to the point, when you are about to leave the cathedral from the main door a bust of Hatuey, who was a courageous American Indian famous rising up against the Conquistadors during their quest to defend his values and loved homeland.
Although more input could be used for restoration, it differs from other churches thanks to its particular neoclassical style, which turns it into a very interesting area for tourists and local people where you cannot only admire its architectural beauty, but be a witness of the Holy Cuban Eucharist.
