The Palacio Salcines (Salcines Palace), located in the heart of Guantánamo, in Cuba, since 1919, is named after the local architect José Leticio Salcines, who was an important figure in architecture. Thanks to his work we can admire his constructions, although the most prominent palace is this one.
This palace-museum consists of three floors of eclectic styles and Catalan details. On the first floor you will find an Art Gallery where you will be imbued with the artists’ works of the time which will allow you to meet privately its thoughts and preferences. The second floor is more about the history of José Leticio Salcines and other wealthy families which will make you a participant of the historic memory of Guantánamo. And on the third floor there is the Provincial Centre of Patrimony. To conclude these three floors we have to mention that there is a dome crowned by a statue: La Fuente de La Fama. This sculpture represents a mythological being with horns and a trumpet in its mouth. It is a work of Américo Chini which is considered as the most representative symbol of Guantánamo since 1995.
This building and more to the point, its mural paintings, underwent a restoration process in 1999. Also, the walls and the roof have been undergoing conservation processes since 2008.
Esta edificación, y más concretamente sus pinturas murales, estuvieron sujetas en el año 1999 a trabajos de restauración, pero también desde el año 2008 a trabajos de conservación en lo que respecta a las paredes y la cubierta.
