The Playa Duaba (Duaba Beach), one of the beaches of Cuba located in the Baracoa municipality, is one of the many existing examples in the Guantánamo province where we can admire awesome sceneries mixed with historic elements. The difference between its turquoise waters and the dark sand make out an obelisk that refers to the event occurred on the 1st of April 1895 by a group of patriots which Antonio Maceo and Crombet highlight to form an alliance with José Martí during the Second Cuban Independence War.
To reminisce the disembarkation at Duaba Beach, the Baracoan and the most important authorities usually embark on a 3 kilometre route all the way to the exact point where they docked the ship. To give it more realism, some neighbours recreate the arrival of the Revolutionary to Baracoa. As you should see, the Cuban village maintained the historic achievement in the archives of collective memory that changed the nation’s direction forever, so during the anniversary celebrations the local people want to honour these heroes, which bring the past and the present closer to each other and, in the end, to future generations.
