The Museo Municipal o Provincial de Guantánamo (Municipal or Provincial Museum of Guantánamo) is a central building of neoclassical style in the municipality. It is located where the city jail previously was.
Although the property dates back to the Second Half of the 19th century the museum opened its doors in 1983 as a Municipal Museum. Afterwards, in 1988 it acquired the Provincial Museum category which highlights the historical transcendence of Guantánamo in general. In it you will find diverse items which any tourist will find interesting regardless of one’s preferences: prehistoric or precolonial objects from the revolutionary fights during the extended phenomenon of Cuban Independence or the native fauna which surprise you again and again.
