The Río Toa (Toa River) is located in the northeastern part of Baracoa, Cuba which name, according to indigenous population, comes from “Toar”, translated Frog or Dios de las Aguas (God of the Waters).
Its 130 km stretch is a perfect reason to include this river in your itinerary if you are searching for different one-of-a-kind experiences and you want to remember your trip full of relaxation if possible. Actually, many excursions are being organised frequently which consists of river-sailing whilst enjoying typical food accompanied by traditional music. If you add to this astonishing sensation of sailing on the biggest river in Cuba the local flora, fauna and the important resources, such as cocoa or coconuts your complete journey will be unforgettable.
Unfortunately, part of the essence of the place was lost in 2016 when the climate conditions suddenly worsened and broke the bridge that had joined the Moa and Baracoa municipalities since 1990. The bridge underwent a restoration process which makes the city accessible not only for local people, but for tourists as well, as it is an infrastructure and a result of the Revolution that served Fidel Castro and other commanders back in the day as well as a normal route to get from one place to another.
