The Río Miel (Miel River) situated in the city of Baracoa in Cuba is mainly known for being the place where Luis Manuel Pérez Abad gives swimming classes for bright hopes as well as acclaimed Olympic athletes because of the lack of a municipal pool.
The unusual name of this river has an interesting love legend behind it saying that a lady with honey-coloured eyes fell in love with a sailor who resigned to be able to stay with her. That is why some neighbours say that everyone who goes to the river will find love and will not go back to his/her home town. As you already know, legends tend to be partly untrue so don’t be afraid and cool yourself down in these clear waters or make an excursion by boat. Be careful, as the conditions might not be the best ones.
During your holiday it is always recommended to visit areas full of vegetation, fauna and water to make a connection with nature. Hire a tourist guide or do it on your own, but don’t leave Cuba if you haven’t taken a closer look at this marvellous place.
