The Museo Arqueológico La Cueva del Paraíso (La Cueva del Paraíso Archaeological Museum) of Baracoa, in Cuba, is located on a southern hill of the municipality near the Castillo de Seboruco (Seboruco Castle), which is one of the most busiest hotel in the city.
Since 2003 the Sociedad Arqueológica de Baracoa (Archaeological Society of Baracoa) leads the project whose members came up with an idea. They wanted to transmit a truthful reflection of Taino life by recreating a small village. For that approximately 2,000 original items of everyday life including cave paintings, carved stone elements and indigenous fauna were distributed around the three floors of the museum. This architectural masterpiece hides in mountainous terrain, which allows visitors to see geologic formations, like stalactites or stalagmites.
Another good reason to visit the Archaeological Museum could be the awesome panoramic view not only of the city, but of its beaches, green areas and clean air among other things. These things might lead us to the origin of the name: La Cueva del Paraíso (Paradise’s Cave).
