At the Fábrica de tabacos Constantino Pérez Carrodegua (Constantino Pérez Carrodegua Tobacco Factory) of Santa Clara, Cuban cigars are made by hand. Many consider it to be the best tobacco in the world, so if you are a cigar fan or simply curious about the process, visiting the tobacco factory is more than a must.
The machinery and circuits inside the facility are smaller than those in Havana making it a quiet and less hectic place to visit. Regardless of its small size, the factory continues to produce a variety of cigars including Montecristo, Partagás and Romeo y Julieta.
In order to tour the factory, visitors must book or buy tickets in advance at the Oficina de Turismo (Tourist Office) as they are the only facility that sells entries. Visits take place during the week, last approximately 40 minutes, and always include a tour guide. No bags, cameras, or pictures are allowed inside the factory. On the way out, visitors can stop by the factory’s gift shop in order to take something home with them.
