The Museo de Artes Decorativas (Museum of Decorative Arts) is located in the city of Santa Clara, Cuba. The museum is considered the second most important museum of decorative arts in Cuba, after the one in Havana, due to its unique style, a splendid collection of furniture, paintings and objects from some of the wealthiest families in the area.
Visitors can find the museum, which opened its doors in 1987, next to the Teatro La Caridad (La Caridad Theater) and near the Parque Leoncio Vidal (Leoncio Vidal Park) in the centre of the city. The museum itself is housed in a neoclassical colonial mansion from the 18th century. Inside, visitors can find house furniture, fans, lamps, statues, baskets, lingerie, paintings by Sorolla and Ricardo López Cabrera as well as personal objects of Cuban writer Dulce María Loynaz, winner of the Cervantes Prize in 1992.
In order to commemorate Loynaz, the museum organizes literary meetings, gatherings, and live concerts in the courtyard several times a week. For over thirty years, the museum has been an educational, cultural, and artistic reference point for all of Cuba giving all lovers of literature and art passing through Santa Clara yet another reason to visit this institution.
