The Cayos del Norte (Northern Keys) or the Cayos de Villa Clara (Villa Clara Keys) are a group of small, white sand, foliage-covered islands belonging to the province of Villa Clara, Cuba. The islands are part of the Sabana-Camagüey archipelago located in the northeastern part of the island. Make sure to visit this Caribbean paradise made up of the beaches of Cayo Santa María (Saint Mary Keys), Cayo Ensenachos (Ensenachos Keys) and the Cayo Las Brujas (Las Brujas Keys).

There is no question as to why the Cayos del Norte are the third most popular tourist destination in Cuba after Havana and Varadero. It’s exuberance, well-preserved environment, and beautiful marine ecosystem are just a few of the reasons visitors make their way to the keys. Scuba divers, both novice and experienced, especially enjoy the marine life in these waters. And if you feel like keeping your feet on land make sure to visit the Puerto Deportivo Marina Gaviota, the most important pier attraction in all of Cuba.

A large portion of the keys can be found in the Bahía de Buenavista (Buenavista Bay), declared a Reserve of the Biosphere by UNESCO in 2002. It is a prime example of the proper conservation, beauty, and richness of the local fauna and flora.

The Cayos del Norte has become popular among tourists in recent years. However, they are not yet overcrowded or exploited like other major tourist attractions making them the perfect spot to relax and unwind.

Visitors can make their way through all the islands in this Cuban paradise thanks to the Pedraplén or Cayo Santa María Road, built between Caibarién from the Cayo Santa María. The Pedraplén allows visitors to take day trips to the keys while staying accommodated in Villa Clara. This affordable option allows visitors to enjoy the key’s fabulous coastline without booking overly-priced hotels by the beachside.
