Get to know Florida the heart of the sugar industry in Camagüey, Cuba, and see its tradition through its festivals

The municipality of Florida, in Camagüey, is the third-largest in this province of Cuba. It is located 46 km northwest of the capital of Camagüey and its economic base comes from the cultivation and processing of sugar in mills. 

The municipality of Florida has diverse institutions, which are very interesting to know the local culture, like the Galería de Arte (Art Gallery), el Museo Municipal (Municipal Museum), the Casa de la Trova, its function is to show new talents of the locality; or a cinema, among others. In addition, different workshops are given on various topics, such as theatre, dance, music and plastic arts.

Its traditional festivals and cultural events are quite well known, and it is worth stopping to enjoy them if you have the chance. Some of them are the peasant festivities, the fiesta de la espiga y los Granitos (spike and the granite festival), the Planes de la Calle the Carnaval Floridano, (Floridian Carnival), and the Semana de la Cultura Floridana (Floridian Culture Week), which is celebrated in December.
