Guáimaro, only 75 km from Camagüey, is the easternmost municipality in the province. Besides enjoying the magnificent tropical climate of the rest of the island of Cuba, it has a remarkable history.
Most of its fame is attributed to the fact that the First Constitution of the Republic of Cuba was signed here on April 10, 1869. The intention was to make this beautiful island a more advanced and prosperous place and to opt for a better future.
This city, is perfect t for exploring its streets and other key points of the culture of the city, like the Parque y Museo de la Constitución (Park and Museum of the Constitution) and, of course, the Mausoleum dedicated to Ana Betancourt, who fought for the rights of the woman and the place that corresponded to her in the society.
In addition, the traditional Feria Agropecuaria (agricultural Fair) is also very famous, as a consequence of the important livestock activity in the area.
There is also a place for leisure, with fantastic nightclubs and restaurants, such as El Taurino, where you can taste exquisite Creole food; the Cabaret Las Maracas; or the Taller de Talabartería (Saddlery Workshop), a centre specialized in high-quality saddles.
The modest and cosy Hotel Guáimaro is a good option for accommodation in the area, as well as several private lodgings that give their guests the best of their treatment in a warm and family atmosphere.
