The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Carmen (Church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen) in Camagüey, of baroque style, was built in 1825 but was recently restored. The distinctive trait that makes it so special is that it is the only church in the entire eastern half of Cuba that has two towers.
This building is located in the Plaza del Carmen, a quiet place where you can see unique bronze statues, which reproduce scenes of everyday life in Camagüey. In this same square is the Monasterio de las Ursulinas (Ursuline Monastery), which has a remarkable cultural value.
Among the most outstanding features of the church are the curved top of the main facade, the mixed-linear doorway, the dome with a lantern, and the vault that supports the choir. All these characteristics are not seen in the rest of Cuban churches and make the Church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen unique, and its historic and cultural value transcends on a national scale.
