This protected area is located 36 km from Camagüey and is made up of three small mountain ranges in Cuba: the Sierra del Chorrillo, the Sierra del Najasa, and the Guaicanámar.
There are several attractions in these lands higher than the rest of the areas that surround it, and which are worth stopping to visit. These places, not so popular with tourists and therefore more peaceful, are, among others, the Hacienda La Belén, a beautiful ranch built during the Second World War and with all the characteristics of a natural reserve. Here you can see various exotic animals, as well as being a bird reserve, and one of the best places in Cuba to see such unique species as the Cuban parakeet, the West Indian swift and the Cuban tyrant.
There are two short trails at your disposal, where you can contemplate the diversity of flora and fauna, as well as explore a hidden cave. These two trails are the sendero de Santa Gertrudis (Santa Gertrudis trail), which is almost 5 km long, and the sendero de las aves (bird trail), which is almost 2 km long; both are perfect for any tourist, whatever their physical condition. The forest, more than 3 million years old, is curious, full of tree stumps that occupy one hectare.
As for accommodation, a good option is the modest and comfortable Motel La Belén, with a capacity for 16 people, and beautiful landscapes in the surroundings.
