The Jardín Botánico de Cupayanicú (Botanical Garden of Cupayanicú), named after the stream running through it, is a Cuban treasure located in Guisa. Although not as well known as the Parque Nacional Turquino or the Parque Nacional Pico La Bayamesa, it is located in the karst foothills of Sierra Maestra mountain range, in our case in the municipality of Guisa, and more precisely in Los Mameyes.
Although it was opened in 1981, its low tourist ratio prevents crowds so your stay here will be pleasant and you will be able to have a nice peaceful walk through its streets whilst appreciating the splendour of its surroundings.
When you least expect it, you have walked through its 104 hectares, distributed in 15 protected areas and 2 natural forests, the cupaynicú and the gallery forest; and you will have a snack in the restaurant with the sensation of having entered the jungle.
Obviously, the flora and fauna comprising the aforementioned have some of the interesting characteristics that Cuba is accustomed to. The exotic vegetation clearly stands out, which is continuously being worked on in order to prevent the indiscriminate felling of these species. It is amazing as well how, at the end of your visit, you will find the icing on the cake, a living fossil which is the only species declared a National Natural Monument in Cuba.
As you can see, it is the perfect place to spend a day alone or in company and have fun with many organised activities, especially in summer, when the workers do their best to attract as many people as possible.
