Manzanillo, the second most significant city in the province of Granma, located near the gulf of Guacanayabo in the eastern area of Cuba. This municipality does not tend to be very busy and sometimes it is a second or third option for tourists, but if you fancy visiting it you will be amazed by the various historical places it has and along which you will walk very comfortably without masses of people.
The history of Manzanillo is equally unknown. Its name comes from a plant that abounded in the 18th century. Although when the Conquistadors reached the coast with their vessels in the beginning of the 16th century it was called Cozcatl, referring to the jewellery the pre-Hispanic groups fabricated and that nowadays is preserved in different pleasant museums in the area.
Regardless of the name of the city, what is clear is that the built port worked as one of the key points of contraband in the province and of the entire Cuba till the mid-20th century. Since then Manzanillo stands out for having mountain areas that could give shelter and, in general, guard the Revolutionary till they had made a strategy and attacked. For all this, nowadays the municipality of Manzanillo houses a large variety of history. If you fancy knowing all of it you must have this place in your itinerary.
It combines historical, natural and artistic value this city offers you and do not get carried away by the rejection the other people may have. Carry on and we guarantee you will be amazed once you enter Manzanillo and fall in love with its lovely people, as there could not be warmer people with rhythm in the whole of Cuba.
As you know, put bets on for Manzanillo and be one of the luckiest ones in discovering it and being in one of the places where the Cuban Revolution emerged.
