The Zoocriadero de Cocodrilos near Manzanillo at the mouth of Cauto River, is an astonishing treasure of nature of Cuba where more than 1,000 crocodiles (crocodylus acutus) will mark a before and after during your stay in the city.
The crocodile farm is an organization created in 1985 made up by specialists aiming at a study on crocodile’s different phases of life: when it is inside the egg, its birth, growth and reproduction. Far away from what could look like a cold and damaging process for the crocodile, it is a system based on the concern about indiscriminate hunting of species. At all times these wild but non-threatening animals are in their natural habitat. The idea was to turn an institution owning these characteristics into an intriguing point of interest for tourists.
Equally for the ones who feel certain rejection towards animals, many other open-air activities have been projected permitting to enjoy the interesting environment as well: having a walk around the area and meeting the fauna and flora, hiking routes, space for picnics, horse rides or learning farm tasks, such as milking cows.
