The Paseo Bayamés (Bayamés Avenue), better known as Calle General Calixto García, is the main street of Bayamo where you have many gastronomic and cultural options at your disposal that will turn your visit to Cuba into a unique memory.
Formed by three stretches and restored at the end of the 19th century the walk carries on permeated by the essence of its people. Decorated with vivid colours and grass areas, on it you will learn more about the closeness of the people and the sheer happiness of the Bayamese.
On the Paseo Bayamés you will find a myriad of specialised restaurants of yummy delicious Cuban food especially for tourists. The typical gastronomy of the province includes, among others, the chicharrón de Bayamón, a tasty plate of roasted pork; the pan de cachete; the congrí, a tasty rice known as the name of Moors and Christian; the yuca con mojo, crushed garlic, lemon juice, salt and Canarian sauté; the ropa vieja, an habitual stew of Canarian inspiration; and the tamal en hoja, a plate of tender ground corn.
When it comes to typical Cuban sweets, the egg pudding and tropical fruits, such as the coconut, the papaya or the guava will award you the sweetest delicacies. Top off your moments with authentic Cuban coffee of strong taste sweetened with sugar cane.
If your love towards food is not so strong as love towards history, pop by the Paseo Bayamés, the Archaeology Museum and the Wax Museum. This last one is the only wax museum in the entire country. In it you will find popular cultural and universal figures with whom to take a picture with and reflect a loyal memory of a remarkable visit to Cuba.
