The Museo Municipal de Yara (Municipal Museum of Yara) is an institution created in 1982 in Yara by some of the most distinctive figures of Granma and, of course, of Cuba.
This museum centre has six halls, all of them decorated in a way that going through its open spaces will make your stay both pleasant and interesting. Storing all the significant events of the city since the moment when Diego Velázquez captured and burnt alive the cacique Hatuey in 1512; even the role the city played in the war of 1950 as a supply centre.
Among the most important aspects we highlight, for instance, the legend of Yara, one of the oldest ones in the country. This legend has come down to us in the following way: it was told that when Hatuey, a native resisting the conquest of the Spanish, was dying, yelled in a way that a light, coming from the flames, extended throughout the entire area. Whether it is true or not, there are people claiming that the territory gives off a very characteristic glow.
Let yourself prove whether the stories about Yara are true or not. The perfect excuse to choose us as your holiday destination.
