The Ventana de Luz Vázquez, Cuban woman married to the revolutionary Francisco del Castillo, is being visited nowadays, as a historical monument. As a whole they had a happy marriage in Bayamo till one discussion brought the most glorious song in the whole of Cuba with it. To be able to forget the event with his beloved one, Francisco asked for help from Carlos Manuel de Céspedes and José Fornaris. Together they composed a song to demonstrate their wholehearted love.
The song was played on the 17th of March 1851 attracting neighbours’ attention who were moved by such a beautiful piece of affection. For that, “La Bayamesa” is considered not only as the first romantic song of Cuba, but as the national anthem of the country.
In every home in the city it was typical to own a guitar, given the musical nature of the Bayamese. In this place you find a commemorative plaque of the events that will lead you to that day when a man disrobed his soul in front of the entire neighbourhood.
