The Sierra del Cristal is a mountain range located in the province of Holguín, Cuba occupying the municipalities of Mayarí, Frank País and Sagua de Tánamo. Its biodiversity is one of the biggest ones for that we find a large variety of protected spots in its areas.
The second mountain chain in the country houses in its environs two of the greatest natural parks of Cuba with regard to the floral as well as animal patrimony: the Parque Nacional Sierra del Cristal (Sierra del Cristal National Park) and the Parque Nacional La Mensura (La Mensura National Park), that own in their interiors some of the most astonishing landforms in the island, like the Salto del Guayabo (Guayabo Falls): the largest waterfall in Cuba.
Without a doubt, the most important attraction in the area is nature and the many fauna and flora species living in the Sierra del Cristal, special for being endemic in Cuba. One of the most significant milestones of the terrain was the find of the Cuban solenodon or almiquí, an endemic insectivorous animal thought to be extinct. It still inhabits the mountain vegetation.

Also, during the Cuban Revolution the Sierra del Cristal was a stage for various battles and the headquarters of Segundo Frente Frank País created by Raúl Castro, that is a museum nowadays where you can confirm the historic significance of the area.
