The Sitio Histórico de Birán (Historic Place of Birán) in Holguín province is one of the most visited places by the Cuban wanting to know more about the history. It consists of 11 installations in the middle of the mountain chain. They are important, because of the replica of the family house where Fidel and Raúl Castro were born, the Manaca farm.
This museum opened in 2002 and declared Monumento Nacional (National Monument) in 2008 consists of 11 wood constructions: the Castro home, the second family home, the home of the grandmother, hotel, school, workshop, cockfence, butcher’s shop, post office and telegraphs and five Haitian huts and a breakwater. You may also find a collection of 1,175 objects, such as personal garments or presents received by Fidel Castro, like the ones of his friend Gabriel García Márquez. It is a recreation of the true ambience that was present there in the past.
The Cuban and foreigners visit this place to find out more about the history of this country of the Castro family as well as to enjoy the amazing scenery between mountains and reedbeds where these houses are located.
