The Parque Natural Cristóbal Colón (Cristóbal Colón Natural Park) goes through the entire Cuban coast from the bahía de Gibara (Gibara Bay) all the way to Sama Bay in Banes inside the Holguín province. It is a very unique place, as it has the most significant and pleasing natural spots in the province and the country.
In its 40 km coastline and more than 5,000 wooded hectareas there is a very rich biodiversity that Columbus admired when he arrived at these coasts for the first time. The idea of this park came up in 2001 and it was to protect and recover this astonishing ecosystem that had suffered damage for many years including the return of endemic fauna and the saving of the archaeological site found there.
Inside this place we can find very intriguing areas, such as the Parque Monumento Nacional Bariay where Columbus for the first time arrived at the Nuevo Continente and that commemorates the native culture, the Parque Natural Bahía de Naranjo (Bahía de Naranjo Natural Park) or the Sendero ecoarqueológico Las Guanas (Las Guanas Ecoarchaeological Route).
