The Parque Calixto García (Calixto García Park) is the main plaza of the Holguín city in Cuba. This Plaza de Armas was built in 1920 and has been the urban centre of the city ever since where different events, fairs and markets take place. That is not all, we are talking about one of the most important buildings in town.
This extremely spacious plaza which Holguín people used as a meeting point and looks like it is built like the central statue of Calixto García, it is decorated with very small but elegant gardens which give them a warm atmosphere for walks and relaxation on benches. Another important figure you can find is the Monument a las Madres, the first prize of an Eastern provincial competition.
Near this park you can find many buildings among the most beautiful ones as well as important institutions, paying attention to the cultural and business life of the city. Some of the are: the Museo Provincial La Periquera de la Ciudad de Holguín (La Periquera Provincial Museum Ciudad de Holguín) the Galería Ballado (Ballado Gallery), the Casa de la Cultura, the Casa de la Trova and the Biblioteca Provincial Alex Urquiola (Alex Urquiola Provincial Library) among others.
