The Parque Peralta (Peralta Park), known as Parque de las Flores (Park of Flowers) as well, is one of the main plazas in the homonymous capital of Holguín province in the eastern part of Cuba. At it you can find some of the most important edifications in the city, like Catedral de San Isidoro (San Isidoro Cathedral).
This one of the most gorgeous plazas in town is dedicated to General Julio Grave de Peralta, who played the leading role in a sedition against Spain in Holguín in 1868. It was built in 1719 and named Plaza de la Iglesia de San Isidoro (Plaza of San Isidoro Church), which opened the way for the cathedral honouring the city patron saint. In 1916, the name was changed during the inauguration of the statue of the general at the plaza. The origin of the name of Parque de las Flores (Park of Flowers) is unknown, although it is believed that it is because of flower sellers who had their stalls at the plaza.
At this gorgeous plaza, besides the great white statue of Julio de Peralta, you can find other monuments, like the Mural de Origen, which tells you a story of the development of Cuba and Holguín starting from their foundation till the abolition of slavery.
The plaza is equipped with green areas and benches in the shadow to relaxation after a walk in this precious park.
