Bahía de Cochinos is a wonderful corner of Matanzas, in the Península de Zapata, which presents an important history for Cuba, and it also blends with beautiful landscapes in which the turquoise waters and white sand will make your stay unforgettable.
As far as its historical importance is concerned, it all goes back to early 1961, two years after Fidel Castro came to power and the Cubans he exiled to the United States eventually allied themselves with the CIA to regain the power they previously enjoyed.
At first everything seemed to be going smoothly. The exile troops believed that when their ships landed on the island they would be helped by those present, however, the opposite happened, the army and the people were ready to fight to defend their beloved Fidel.
Obviously, the consequences of the attack were not insignificant. More than a thousand prisoners and hundreds of dead gave their lives for the cause. Anyone would say that due to the damage the war lasted for months, when in reality it only lasted three days and the greatest damage was at a sentimental level. The United States had experienced first-hand a complete failure against Cuba. But let us not believe either that the conflict affected only these two powers, not at all. More than 45 countries were involved with the aim of putting an end to what could have been a real massacre.
As we can see, the Bahía de Cochinos stands out as a point of interest on the map for those who are passionate about history, but also as a quiet area with a wide variety of places to stay, from hotels to private homes, whose visitors are mostly looking to relax and disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the city.
