The Puente de la Concordia (Concordia Bridge) was built in 1878 over the Yumurí river to join the barrio de Versalles (Versailles neighbourhoods) and Matanzas. Today, it is one of the most important symbols of the Cuban city due to its architecture and durability.
The structure of this emblematic bridge has four cylindrical stone columns, designed by architect Pedro Celestino del Pandal. They are placed on both sides of the accesses to the pass. The footbridge is made up of a metal structure formed by arches with a span of 36 metres, forming a striking contrast with the stonework pillars that add height and originality to the construction.
The Puente de la Concordia has become a symbol of the city due to its unique design, so much so that when an important visitor comes to the province they are given a miniature replica of its columns.
Although the locals who cross it daily do not stop to appreciate the structure, you should certainly come and walk around it while enjoying the views and architecture of this emblematic bridge.
