Playa Coral (Coral Beach), located in the province of Matanzas, Cuba, is one of the most beautiful locations on the island because of its fine white sand, crystal clear waters and 2 km long coral reefs. All this makes it a great place for water sports such as snorkelling or scuba diving.
Between the city of Matanzas and Varadero, we found this beautiful beach that although receives hundreds of tourists, continues being a calm yet wild place thanks to the prohibition of activities like fishing and other aquatic sports detrimental to the ecosystem. As a result, playa Coral is a unique habitat where more than 50 types of fish and other exotic marine creatures, such as sponges and crustaceans, characteristic of the area, live together.
Even though it is possible to do freediving there, it is recommended to dive in the Laguna de Maya, a safer option, or in the Reserva de Fauna y Flora (Fauna and Flora Reserve), 400 m eastwards, you will find guides and the possibility of renting diving equipment. This place offers other types of activities such as boat rental and access to the Cuevas de Saturno (Saturno Caves).
To access the beach you must take the old road that connects the two coastal towns.
