The Mansión Xanadú (Xanadu Mansion) was built in 1928 for the American businessman Irénée Dupont and is now known as Casa Las Américas (The Americas House). It has a prime location high on the rocks of San Bernardino, north of the city of Varadero, enjoying the first line of coast.
The wealthy Dupont chose this heavenly place to establish his vacation home and built one of the most luxurious and expensive residences of the time. The design of this house is not the typical Cuban style, but it is an eclectic style that the businessman himself brought from America, in which the great quality of the materials used to stand out: mahogany wood, cedar, imported marble...
The resort had three floors, seven rooms, three terraces and a golf course, something is never before seen on the island. As for the interior, although there are no major works of art, the variety of striking decorative elements is remarkable, such as a stove (strange if we consider the Caribbean climate of the area) and an electromagnetic organ that played music in different rooms of the house.
Today, the complex is an exclusive hotel and restaurant where visitors can enjoy the luxury and views as Irenee Dupont did on his vacation.
