The Museo Oscar María de Rojas (Oscar María de Rojas Museum) is the result of a long citizen struggle to obtain a space dedicated to the great Cuban cultural heritage in the city of Cárdenas.

In 1900, the Museo y Biblioteca Municipal de Cárdenas (Cardenas Museum and Municipal Library) was officially inaugurated. For years, some of the most illustrious citizens of the town had put great effort into its creation, and all this in spite of the difficult political situation of the time. However, a long time would pass before the museum's headquarters would be the way it is today. Thanks to the increase in funds from donations, a larger space had to be found so that. Shortly afterwards, American intervention forced the evacuation of the city's spaces dedicated to the different exhibitions. In 1918 the museum was reopened in a new building with an extensive and valuable collection but, unfortunately, its doors would be closed again after enduring great hardship for years.

In 1979, the institution was opened again and in the year 2000 it was remodeled again for three years. Fidel Castro officially reopened it to the public as the Museo Oscar María de Rojas in honor of one of the men who fought most throughout his life for the creation of a quality museum in Cárdenas.

After so many years of ups and downs, the museum has finally been recognized as one of the oldest and most important galleries in Cuba and symbolizes the efforts of many citizens to preserve and spread Cuban culture and history. At present, it has a small contemporary art room and 13 exhibition rooms where you can find many works of great value displayed in the Sala de los Fundadores, American Archaeology, Cuban Archaeology, Malacology, World Entomology, Sala de Armas, Sala de Numismática, Etnología, History Room, a room dedicated to José Martí, Art Room and Centro de Veteranos (Veterans' Center).
