Playa Larga, is located in Bahía de Cochinos in the Península de Zapata, the second biggest tourist center in the Cuban region of Matanzas. This beach is as beautiful as the ones we find in Varadero, although it is surrounded by a very different landscape.
It's a beach of 4 km from length and little depth with the same clear waters and white sands that so famous make to the península de Hicacos, but the difference is that this place is inside an unique and protected ecosystem where the main star is nature. That is why Playa Larga is an ideal place for those who do not want to give up the picturesque beaches, try to connect with the wild ecosystem of the peninsula far from the great mass of tourism in other areas of Cuba.
In this way, you will be able to enjoy the sun and refreshing baths in the same bay where in 1661 American army ships docked to conquer the island. This initiative would not be successful and would be a significant fact for the history of Cuba and its relations with the United States.
Playa Larga, has some accommodations available, and is a good starting point if you want to explore the Cienaga Reserve and the thousands of species that live there. Some of the most popular activities here are bird watching at the various lookouts dedicated to it, sport fishing, scuba diving and hiking.
