The Archdiocesan Museum of Santiago de Cuba is located inside the Santiago de Cuba Cathedral in the Cuban city and is an exhibition of religious art that has among its pieces the "Santo Ecce Homo", the oldest religious work in the country.
In the collection we can find numerous paintings made by bishops and archbishops of Cuba as well as wooden and plaster busts and pieces of the highest value such as the chasuble of Archbishop Zubizarreta embroidered in tissue and gilt gold and the chasuble that John Paul II offered to the city, staffs and baroque crucifixes. Clerical documents such as public decrees and minutes that collected meetings of the city's ecclesiastical council are also exhibited, as well as original scores by religious musicians such as Esteban Salas and Juan de París.
The exhibition is exciting for religious visitors but also for others because of the beauty and opulence of many of the objects that are displayed, but without a doubt the star element is the "Santo Ecce Homo", an oil painting on wood that represents Christ and that dates back to 1616 when Francisco Antonio, a Colombian painter, brought him to Santiago de Cuba.
